Hey Dat (cool name, BTW) - There's no longer a need to group writers & art directors separately from the rest of the organization? The division is certainly a part of (some) ad agencies cultures, but it's one of the ways in which those agencies are behind the times. The label indicates that creativity always flows from one direction, reinforcing a silent waterfall framework that the sharpest clients have long outgrown. Just my POV.

I agree that creativity should be present everyWhere and not just the team of art directors and copywriters, but ultimately, "a Creative" is just a name that happened to catch on. What else should we call them? A&W? Artists & Writers? Concepters? Ad-Dreamers? I don't know, but "a Creative" is the arbitrary industry standard, and when you say it, people understand what you're trying to say.

It doesn't mean that Creatives are the only ones that are creative, of course. It's a snazzy name and yes, it is like a club, but the ad industry is tiny and club-like too. The ad industry is a small sub-culture that has specific lingo and unwritten rules. Honestly, it's what I love and hate about the ad industry.
