Getting Things Done

Last month, I finally went out and bought a book I’ve heard a lot about: Getting Things Done by David Allen.  Not surprisingly, I hadn’t found time to dig in and READ the long-awaited book – but this weekend, I’ve started.

The idea behind it is documenting your exhaustive to-do list and keeping everything on it actionable and regularly reviewed with the end goal of freeing your mind to focus on what you’re actually doing at each time.

I’m still on the first chapter, but something I just read really resonated with me.  The author presents three reasons why something occupies your mind:

  1. “You haven’t clarified exactly what the intended outcome is.
  2. “You haven’t decided what the very next physical action is.
  3. “You haven’t put reminders of the desired outcome and next action into a system you trust.”

So true!  I’ll keep you posted on my progress as I continue reading the book.
